If you are a carer, or if you are just wanting to know what you can do to support carers, the Carers UK website (www.carersuk.org) offers a wealth of information.

Carers UK is an organisation that aims to improve carers’ lives.

They fight for equality for carers. They want carers to have the same right as everyone else to an ordinary life – a fair level of income, adequate support to protect their health and well being and access to the world of work, leisure and education They want carers to be recognised and actively involved as key partners in the design, delivery and provision of health and social care services.

They provide information and advice to carers about their rights and how to get support.

They also operate a telephone advice service for carers. The CarersLine can offer advice on any issue to do with caring and disability such as benefits, hospital discharge, employment issues, making a complaint, getting a social services assessment and much more.

The service is free. The service is currently only open for 2 days a week. However there is an answerphone service and if you leave details an advisor will call you back.
